This casual Japanese restaurant offers Gifu’s famous Hida beef. It was a successful inn during the mid-Meiji period (1668-1912) when it was founded, and the building remains as it was then. The traditional hearth gives it a real feel of old Japan. Their main dish is a Hida beef topped rice bowl. They also serve steak and aburi rolled beef that lets the flavor of the A5 grade Hida beef shine. Other dishes include special Hida beef curry on rice and soba noodles with meat. Their Hida beef nigiri zushi is great to eat on the go, making Sakaguchiya a perfect spot to drop in while seeing the town. There’s a collection of marionettes in the storehouse at the back.
