Mametengu Main Store (豆天狗 本店)

This ramen shop is located a 10-minute walk from Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line. Originally founded in 1948, the shop’s Japanese-style building was renovated in 2004. Its natural wood counter and a table equipped with a traditional-style sunken hearth create a retro atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa period. The shop’s two most popular items are their chuka soba (ramen noodles), popular for its secret soy sauce-based broth, and their thick-cut homemade tsukemen (dipping noodles), which are paired with a rich seafood-derived sauce. Each can be ordered with extra noodles or extra slices of roast pork. Come enjoy old-fashioned flavors in the shop’s Takayama-style interior, which is decorated with items such as sarubobo (human-shaped amulets) and ema (votive images horses).
