Matsukawa River Cruises松川遊覧船

Pleasure Boat / Water Cruise

Come take a relaxing cruise on a sightseeing boat along the Matsukawa River, which flows around Toyama Castle Ruin Park. The boat dock also features a teahouse, Matsukawa Chaya, which serves a variety of sweets. Passengers can enjoy the seasonal views while listening to the commentary from the boatman during the approximately 30-minute cruise. During the spring, the 460 cherry blossom tree that line both banks of the river come into full bloom, earning Toyama Castle a spot on Japan's best 100 places to view cherry blossoms. The castle, which served as the model for a song composed by composer Rentaro Taki, is also a place full of historic atmosphere.

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
