Yakantai Tentosuru

Other Historic Site/Building
"""Yakan"" means kettle, and as its name implies, this statue, situated in Kanazawa Station's east plaza, is shaped like a kettle. Two Kanazawa ""Machinaka"" Sculpture Competitions were held in 2004 and 2006 to commemorate the opening of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and the completion of Kanazawa Station's east plaza. This piece was selected from among 470 submissions from around the country and the world as the winner of the 2006 competition. Serving as a neighborhood symbol, the sculpture consists of a realistically designed kettle, a common part of many people's everyday lives, enlarged to huge proportions and half-buried in a grass-covered mound, merging the everyday with art."
