Mantokuji Temple

Famous for its flowers, this temple has a dry landscape garden carpeted with white sand featuring azaleas in the spring, new greenery in the early summer and the changing leaves of Japanese maple trees in the fall which lend color to the temple. It also has the only garden designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty of the eight local temples noted for their national treasures and cultural properties. It is also known for its wooden sitting statue of Amitabha, a National Important Cultural Property sculpted in the late Heian period.

そこそこ良い寺院でしたよ。二回目の参拝です。

紅葉の季節じゃなかったので・・・青紅葉と「五色つばき」が見物の季節でした。相変わらず綺麗に造られた、掃除もされている庭園、って感じ・・・・。今回は頑張って住職さんが口角泡を飛ばして説明されていたが、写真を撮るよりも、室内を眺めるよりもまずは私の説明を聞け！と云わんばかりの大声で・・・騒がしいだけ、寺院の説明にはそぐわない説明の仕方。施設へ行って説明を聞いたりするのも数千回、数万回とあったが、下手な...
貴重な文化財と美しい庭園があるお寺

若狭彦神社の近くにあります。拝観をお願いすると、本堂に安置されている平安時代後期の阿弥陀如来像（重文指定）をはじめ弥勒菩薩図や不動明王図（共に重文指定）など、貴重な文化財を拝観することができます。その後、山の斜面を活かした「曼荼羅庭園」と言われる庭園に案内されますが、国の名勝に指定されている美しい庭園で、多種の花が咲くことから「花の寺」とも言われています。

この寺院の前身は、極楽寺という古刹です。幾多の変遷を経て慶長７年（１６０２年）に寺号を萬徳寺と改めたそうです。この寺の見どころは国指定名勝の庭園です。白砂を敷き詰めた枯山水庭園は、春はツツジ、初夏は新緑、秋はモミジと四季を通じて楽しめます
