This is a museum in Nagatoro, Nagatoro Town, Chichibu County. The museum collects as well as stores and researches natural materials of the area with the theme “from the past to the future, a 300 million year journey of Saitama and the coexistence of people and nature”. There is an earth science exhibition and a biological creature display as a permanent exhibit. Additionally, the museum holds exhibitions on the living biological creatures and minerals in the Saitama Chichibu area.

秩父の自然と成り立ちが学べる

埼玉県に40年以上住んでますが、子供と初めて訪れました。他県の自然博物館に比べると小振りな博物館でしたが、秩父で発掘された化石から、大昔は海であったことがよく分かります。パレオパラドキシアの化石は大変興味深いです。秩父の自然や成り立ちを学べるので、秩父観光前に訪れると、秩父巡りがより楽しめると思います。

国道１４０号秩父方面からアクセスするも導線がイマイチ分かり難い。観覧料２００円とリーズナブル。クレジットカード、交通系マネー、QRコード決済で支払可。巨大ザメ「カルカロドンメガロドン」や、謎の海獣「パレオパラドキシア」、埼玉の森を再現した大ジオラマなど、埼玉の自然に関する様々な資料を展示。冒険少年・少女の心をくすぐること必定。何より展示解説リーフレットが充実しています。
化石や鉱物、動物、植物など、埼玉の自然について理解する事ができます。

博物館に入ると「カルカロドンメガロドン」という全長約12ｍの巨大ザメの復元模型が迎えてくれます。館内の展示は常設展示の3エリア「オリエンテーションホール」・「地学展示ホール」・「生物展示ホール」と「企画展」で構成され、森の中に入ったような臨場感が感じられるジオラマも有り、小学生の方にもお勧めです。
