Kashidokoro Tobita

Japanese Confectionery
A 13 minute drive from Tokushuku Station. Tobita is a Japanese confectionary standing along National Route 51. The shop is small but bright, and its display shelves are lined with old-fashioned, delicious Japanese and baked sweets. The shop’s kashiwamochi, select a sweet bean paste wrapped in a homemade rice flour dough covered with an oak leaf, is available year round. Particularly recommended items include the melon daifuku, melon pies, chestnut monaka, and melon monaka. The melon daifuku in particular draws many repeat customers from far and wide, but it’s only available from May to July. The secret to this treat’s popularity is the distinctly invigorating sweetness of muskmelon; the dough and an bean paste is mixed with juice from muskmelons grown in Hokota, and these in turn enwrap pieces of cut melon.
