Other Light Meals

A taiyaki stand a five minute walk from the main entrance of the Tomioka Silk Mill. Kurasanchi is famous for its kaikoyaki, a silkworm-shaped taiyaki sweet containing fillings such as custard and tsubuan coarse sweet bean paste. The chewy kaikomochi are also popular. Both are perfect for enjoying while going sightseeing. In addition, due to the strong association between threads and fate in Japan, the silkworm statue in front of the stand has been purified by the local Suwa-jinja Shrine to ensure it brings good luck. This cute statue is also rapidly becoming a popular commemorative photo spot.

Gunma prefecture is synonymous with onsen. Natural hot spring water sources throughout the prefecture have given rise to a series of small onsen towns, each set among luscious mountains. At Kusatsu, Ikaho, and Minakami, traditional indoor and outdoor bathing experiences are served hand in hand with irresistible onsen-themed food, including steam-cooked eggs and custard pudding.
