Shimohagatei

Local Cuisine

This 140-year old remodeled merchant’s house with its historical ambience has been designated a registered tangible cultural property. Interior décor like its furniture and tableware is reminiscent of those days gone by. The restaurant uses Japanese buckwheat flour and Uchiko-grown vegetables. Their “Noasobi Bento” lunch box with local seasonal ingredients is always popular. The second floor is used as a gallery. In addition to selling local traditional crafts, events are held on a regular basis.

Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs.
