Iwamotoji Temple岩本寺

Temple

This temple belongs to the Chisan sect of Shingon Buddhism and is located in Shimanto Town in Takaoka County, Kochi Prefecture, and it is the 37th temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage. It is said that the Buddhist priest Gyoki founded it between 729 and 749, and it is known for its “seven wonders” that are associated with Kukai. There are principal images of five deities: Acala, Kannon, Amitabha, Bhaisajyaguru, and Ksitigarbha. The temple grounds contain the oldest hall with an enshrined statue of Kobo Daishi, as well as 575 ceiling paintings that adorn the main hall, constructed in 1978.

四国霊場37番札所の 岩本寺 は、四万十町 窪川にあります。本堂の天井の絵は色んな方が自由に描いたものでマリリンモンローがあったのには驚きました!境内の奥に線路があり、突然、電車が走って来たのも驚きでした。

国道56号からちょいとだけ381号へ分かれ、さらに国道の巨大案内標識(青看板)に従い少しだけ路地へ入る解り易いロケーション。住宅市街地に位置し、山門をくぐると明るい感じのお寺さんだった。

立派な本堂に入りますと、思わず見上げてしまいますのは天井画です。天井絵は、575枚あるようですが、お寺だけに関します題材の絵ではなく、マリリン・モンローなど、いろいろな絵があり面白く、ちょっとびっくりするような天井絵も目を引きます。
