Iwamotoji Temple
Temple
This temple belongs to the Chisan sect of Shingon Buddhism and is located in Shimanto Town in Takaoka County, Kochi Prefecture, and it is the 37th temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage. It is said that the Buddhist priest Gyoki founded it between 729 and 749, and it is known for its “seven wonders” that are associated with Kukai. There are principal images of five deities: Acala, Kannon, Amitabha, Bhaisajyaguru, and Ksitigarbha. The temple grounds contain the oldest hall with an enshrined statue of Kobo Daishi, as well as 575 ceiling paintings that adorn the main hall, constructed in 1978.

- Such a colourful temple
- Beautiful temple, its so colourful and well kept. Make sure to check out the ceiling in the main hall, its gorgeous! There are some facilities on site if needed, washroom, dining room, laundry etc.

- 第37番札所 岩本寺この日最後のお寺、夕方に近いということもあり境内は少し閑散としていましたが門前は若干パリピっぽい雰囲気もあって面白かったです。弘法大師ゆかりの七不思議の伝説もあるようですが何よりも天井画が見事。あまり時間はありませんでしたが時間の許す限り見て回りました。
