Market

Nakaura Fisherman’s Wharf is a market, selling mainly fish and seafood products, which is located in the Takenouchi-danchi district of Sakaiminato City. The market sells fresh fish and seafood landed at Sakaiminato harbor, as well as processed seafood products such as ichiyaboshi (fish salted and dried overnight), delicacies, matsuba crab (in the winter months), etc. There is an area where visitors can have fish or seafood that they have purchased in the market cooked for them in Robatayaki barbecue style, as well as a seafood restaurant, and a rest area decorated with illustrations by famous manga artist Mizuki Shigeru. Visitors can also have commemorative photographs taken standing next to a stone statue of manga character Kitaro which is the largest statute of its kind in Japan, or next to a life-size statue of Nezumi-otoko (another character in the Kitaro stories).
