Tokoro Museum Omishima

This modern art museum can be found on Omishima Island, which is located along the Shimanami Kaido Expressway in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. It opened in 2004 thanks to the contributions of businessman Atsuo Tokoro. Inside you’ll find an exhibit of approximately 30 three-dimensional works by Giacomo Manzu, known for creating the gate of St. Peter’s Basilica, as well as Noe Katz, Norichika Hayashi, and Takashi Fukai. The building is located on a plateau on the island, which affords the terrace a splendid view of the Seto Inland Sea.

印象的な展示品の見せ方！

8月1日 3年ぶりくらいの訪問です。今治市大三島町大山祇神社前を通過して数キロ、海岸線の高台にあります。印象的な玄関がお迎えしてくれます。入り口から階段状の展示室を降りながら展望室へと向かいます。今回は、コロナ禍の関係でコーヒーのサービスはありませんでした。2度目の訪問、前回の印象より経年劣化を感じました。やはり受付の対応や展示仕方、備品やパンフレットのメンテナンス、来館者への気配りなど、工夫...

小さな個人美術館です。斜面を活かして、構成したギャラリーを海風が通り抜けます。気候の良いときが、楽しめますね。美術館ですが、喫茶、空調はありません。

今治から自転車でしまなみ海道を進みました。途中、大三島は見どころが多くあちこちを回りましたが、その際こちらのミュージーアムへも小休止を兼ねて寄りました。現代的でモダンなミュージーアムで、作品を鑑賞したり瀬戸内海の景色を楽しんだりしてひと時を過ごしました。
