Johgi Nyorai (Saihoji Temple)

Ths temple is known for the hauntingly beautiful “Candle Festival” that takes place on August 15. It is said to have been founded by Taira no Sadayoshi, who protected a statue of Amitabha bequeathed to him by Taira no Shigemori and escaped the purge of the Minamoto Clan. In 1706, Hayasaka Genbei, a subordinate’s descendant, became a monk by the name of Kanrensha Ryonen and established the temple. It’s about a 45-minute drive from the Sendai-Miyagi Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway.

定義山の西方寺。仙台の山奥にあります。天皇塚は縁結びスポットらしいです。本堂は新しく、きれいでした。駐車場も十分にあります。

以前からニッカウヰスキーの工場へ行くと途中に看板あり気になっていたので、秋保温泉に行くついでに訪ねた。一生に一度の大願も叶えていただける如来として、昔から多くの参拝者が訪れるそうだが、なんといても印象的なのは登録有形文化財に指定されている山門。HPによると昭和７年建立とあるが古色蒼然としていて、それ以上の歴史を感じる。六角の形の貞能堂は昭和2年に建て替えられたそうだが、すぐそばに新しそうな建物もあ...

二度目の訪問の今回は門前からゆっくりと歩いて訪問です。境内は程よい広さ、ゆっくりとお参りしました。国道からは車でも２０分程走ったところにあるので少し時間はかかりますが落ち着いた雰囲気が良いおすすめのお寺さんです。
