Shimanuki Main Shop

A long-standing kokeshi and wooden goods shop which was established in 1892. The shop stands along Aoba-dori Avenue extending from Sendai Station. In addition to kokeshi wooden dolls, the shop sells a variety of Tohoku crafts popular with tourists, including tamamushi lacquerware, Sendai tsuishu relief lacquerware, and Sendai tansu chests of drawers. The shop also sells a variety of goods mixing old-fashioned folk crafts with modern ideas, including Akari Kokeshi, kokeshi wooden dolls equipped with an LED flashlight in the base in case of a disaster; and Sendai no Koku clocks which make use of traditional Sendai tansu chests of drawers designs.
