You’ll find this art museum next to Nishiohata Park in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. Its collections and exhibitions focuses on contemporary and modern art as well as the works of artists with ties to Niigata. The building was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a Niigata-born architect, in his latest years. The collection consists of over 4,000 items and includes modern art by Bonnard, Rodin, Piccaso, and more, as well as domestic artists such as Yayoi Kusama. Several exhibits are held every year.

常設展に行きました

企画展も有りましたが、時間がなく常設展のみ拝見しました。新潟市内をモチーフにした絵画が多く、市民の喜怒哀楽を感じさせてくれる作品が多かったと思います。フラッシュをしなければ撮影可なのも嬉しいですね。

これまでの地方美術館の県都には感動すら覚えるものがあり、ここ新潟も素敵なコレクションがあるので期待した。コレクション展はシュールでちょっぴり。素敵なコレクションは隠されたまま。他の地方美術館とは方針が違うようでがっかりであった。
