Machiya Gallery Yamakichi

Art Gallery / Gallery
Machiya Gallery Yamakichi is a gallery housed within one of the old townhouses, or machiya, which has been designated as one of the nation’s Registered Tangible Cultural Properties. The building still retains the charm of the Edo period with its stylish black tiles and window grills. The gallery mainly handles pieces from local craftsmen and handicrafts made by traditional craftsmen with quite a range on offer such as salted salmon patchwork, and Uetsu shinafu (a kind of woven textile). Inside the building you can see the hearth and living room and also you can see furnishings like the old wooden panels and sliding doors which were fashionable at the time. The nearest station is Murakami Station.
