Rakugan Moroeya Nishichaya Saryo

Candy Store

A café and sweet shop located in the “Nishi Chaya District” in Kanazawa easily identifiable by its red noren shop curtain out front. Renowned for its rakugan dry starch sweets and other famous confections, this long-standing sweet shop was established in 1849. The bright interior mixes Japanese and Western styles. Customers can enjoy a seasonal fresh sweet or dried candy while gazing at the beautiful shop garden. In winter, the shop offers a popular Noto adzuki bean zenzai and oshiruko sweet bean soups which let you grill your own mochi rice cakes at your seat. In summer, the shaved ice is a customer favorite. The shop also has a corner in the back selling Japanese confections for customers to take home. The nearest station is Kanazawa Station.

Long, thin Ishikawa prefecture runs along the Sea of Japan up into Noto Peninsula. Highlights of the seaside towns lining the west coast include Kanazawa, often described as a "Little Kyoto" thanks to its old wooden tea houses and geisha culture as well as its picturesque Japanese garden, Kenroku-en.
