Amano-iwato Shrine

Shrine
This shrine located at the foot of Mt. Kaguyama enshrines the Amenoiwaya, also known as the Amanoiwato, a massive stone said to contain the spirit of the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami. While it does not have a main shrine, the shrine has a tradition called nanahon-dake no fushigi (the mystery of the seven bamboo plants) in which seven bamboo plants on the grounds shrivel and die and are replaced by seven new bamboo plants every year.
