Hoko-an
A workshop in Taiji Town, Higashimuro County, Wakayama Prefecture which makes and sells whale-themed folk crafts; whales are a symbol of the town of Taiji. The cute, round bodies of the shop’s lucky earthenware whale bells called “Kissho Kujira Dorei”, which are based on a local legend about a whale, make them popular souvenirs. The workshop sells a wide variety of uniquely designed items, including tableware and toothpick holders. Hoko-an also holds classes in which participants can paint their own ceramic pieces (reservation required). You can bring home your completed piece the same day.
