Matsusaka cotton with its striped indigo pattern came to popularity during the Edo-Period and was marked by its low cost and its durability. もめんや藍は伊勢神宮内宮の参道である、おはらい町通り沿いにある「松坂もめん」の専門店です。「松坂もめん」は天然藍の先染め糸を使った綿織物で、江戸時代には江戸で大流行した事もあるそうです。こういった日本の伝統的なお店があると嬉しくなりますね。

おかげ横丁の入り口に有る、木綿生地の様々なアイテムを売っているお店です。名刺入れやエプロンなど気になる商品がありましたが、どれも藍色が本当に綺麗です。値段もとても手頃(観光地価格じゃない)で、お土産などにも良いと思いました。

伊勢神宮内宮へのお参りを済ませた後、おはらい町にあったこちらのお店に入ってみました。赤福本店の斜め向かい、おかげ横丁への葉入り口にお店はありました。「もめんや」の名前は、藍色が美しい染め物から来ているんですね。その布を使ったかわいらしい小物がたくさんあって、どれにしようかととても迷いました。結局は無難に手ぬぐいにしましたが、じかんがあったらもっとゆっくり見たいと思う店でした。
