This art museum in Futami Town, Ise City, Mie Prefecture collects and displays art mainly from the Makonde Tribe that lives on the border zone between Tanzania and Mozambique in East Africa. Inside various works that the curator has collected over many years are substituted and shown to the public. A large number of works by the Makonde tribe are items made of ebony, and the carvings full of vitality are attractive. In addition, there are Tinga Tinga paintings, musical instruments and lifestyle implements on display.

いろいろな施設の入場券と切符がセットになっている近鉄のチケットで鳥羽に行ったときに立ち寄ってみました。鳥羽駅からのバスの本数が少ないので、公共交通機関利用者にとっては、ついでにちょっと立ち寄るというのはなかなか難しいと思います。私が行ったときには混雑しておらずゆっくりと見ることができました。施設そのものはおすすめできます。

鳥羽からバスで15分位の場所に在りますが、バス停からは少し離れています。訪ねた日は館長一人だけで、入場者がおらず私のために音楽を流してくれました。一階と二階にびっしり様々なマコンデ族の彫刻が展示してあります。性を表現した物も多いですが、変ないやらしさを受けませんでした。素晴らし美術館なのに訪れる人が少ないのが残念ですね。

マコンデ族の作る黒檀の彫刻や仮面が並ぶ美術館。思ったよりも作品数は多く、見ごたえがありました。一本の黒檀から彫り出した大作などもあり、なかなか身近には無いセンスの造形美を堪能できます。館内は常にアフリカンな音楽が流れ、妙な高揚感を覚えながらの鑑賞ができました（笑）大阪の民族博物館などが好きな人にはオススメです！
