Momotaro Shrine
According to legend, the bank of the Kiso River in Inuyama is where the great folk hero Momotaro was born. Momotaro is a demigod who emerged from a peach, and Momotaro Shrine is dedicated to this legendary figure. The shrine was built in 1930. Mt. Momo beyond the shrine has been viewed as a Shinto deity since ancient times as it is the location where Momotaro last hid himself away. Locally, the shrine is believed to grant the prayers of those seeking to be blessed with children and to see their children grow healthy and strong. The shrine has an unusual torii gate decorated with a peach. The museum’s treasure hall presents materials relating to the legend of Momotaro.
