Yokohama Municipal Kanazawa Zoo横浜市立金沢動物園

Zoo

Located 12 minutes away by bus from the west exit of Keihin Electric Express Railway Kanazawa-bunko Station; get off at the “Natsuyamasakaue” stop. A municipal zoo located in Kanazawa Natural Park. Focusing primarily on rare herbivores animals, many animals found at no other zoo are kept here. The zoo has prepared spacious grounds for keeping its large herbivores, and you can take your time and enjoy watching them amidst beautiful natural environments. Time your visit right, and you can watch koalas eating eucalyptus leaves. There’s also a petting zoo where you can play with goats and sheep. The great grey kangaroo area, which lets visitors actually walk through it, is particularly popular.

Review of Kanazawa Zoo

Reviewed:2018/04/16 A small zoo, packed with interesting animals and exhibits.
This was a great visit. Got to pet a kangaroo. Neat animals and exhibits. Bus could have taken us a little closer to gate, that was a little walk, but other than that, it was great.
Reviewed:2016/01/02 Decent zoo, don't miss the roller park!
Our family visited this zoo and it is an enjoyable, easy day out with kids. The zoo is situated on a hill, so the walk through the zoo is pleasant. (Stroller friendly)
Not many "big" animals but it...
Reviewed:2015/11/18 Great Sites, Okay Zoo
This zoo is very different from zoos back home. It had pros and cons.

Pros:
Great park with huge slide before you come in.
Beautiful fall foliage.
Adorable koalas.
Albino kangaroo.
You get to hike...

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo's most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
