Chimakiya
A shop specializing in Taiwanese zongzi dumplings, which are boiled instead of steamed as in other areas of Asia. Despite the shop’s location along a back alley off of a road running into Yamashita Park in Chinatown, Chimakiya is so popular there is a limit of five zongzi per customer. Chimakiya’s zongzi are made Taiwanese home-style and are filled with soy sauce-flavored glutinous rice, stewed cubes of pork, shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp, and peanuts. About half as big again as a standard onigiri, Chimakiya’s hearty zongzi are also sold for taking home or giving as souvenirs; just boil one to enjoy a piping-hot, fresh zongi dumpling.
