At this restaurant in Shuzenji, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, you can taste plenty of great well cooked Japanese food such as Izu river fish and other delicacies from the mountains. The restaurant has featured on TV before and it’s so well known that even ryokan chefs come here to dine. The specialty ayu, or sweetfish, caught from the Kano River is a fine, natural thing. It’s a popular food eaten as sashimi to savor the full freshness of the fish. Otherwise it is often served on a bed of rice, or grilled with salt. Another local favorite is the Japanese mitten crab which can be found inhabiting the clear river waters. The meat of the crab is mashed into a soup cooked with miso and eaten with udon noodles, making it one of their most popular dishes.
