Odo Tokko Soba

Soba / Udon

Odo Tokko Soba is a noodle shop located in Shuzenji in the town of Izu in Shizuoka Prefecture. This popular shop is decorated in pure Japanese style, as befits a restaurant located in a hot spring resort area. This is the place to come for some famous Tokko Soba, made with spring water from Shuzenji. Only two types of soba are available: Zaru Soba (chilled noodles served with a dipping sauce) and Kake Soba (noodles in hot broth), served with sides of simmered seasonal vegetables and steamed spinach. Zaru Soba is served with a stalk of pure Amagi-grown wasabi that goes down easily, and if any is left over, customers can take it home. The Kake Soba is served with locally grown shiitake mushrooms and wild plants.

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan's largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
