This restaurant in the Shuzenji district of Shizuoka Prefecture’s Ito City is attractive for its Japanese-style appearance that allows guests to sense its history and charm. It serves creative cuisine with an emphasis on the addition of vegetables to its arrangement of basic Japanese food. The menu which uses the local specialties of kurogome black rice and wasabi has quite a reputation. The Hanaguruma Bento kaiseki-style lunch, which is only available in limited quantities, and the Shuzenji Kaiko Soba are popular. Dinner is by reservation only.

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
