Restaurant Boranaya

Seafood Cuisine

This restaurant is in a restored thatched-roof fisherman’s hut that was constructed in 1627 as a base for striped mullet fishing. It lies in the Izu tourist attraction of Jogasaki Coast in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Ito City, and a walking path continues up to the famous Kadowaki Suspension Bridge. Their specialty is cuisine using various seafood caught in the nearby sea, and of that seafood the boiled kinmedai (red bream) nitsuke and shabu-shabu are particular popular. Additionally, they have a complete range of fresh seafood cuisine including ise-ebi (spiny lobster), sazae (turban shell) and aji (horse mackerel). During the summer period the saltwater pool is also open. Pets (even large dogs) are allowed inside the store.

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
