Zawa-ya is popular for additive-free jam made only with sugar and seasonal, domestically-grown fruits and the original store is located in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County Nagano Prefecture. They produce jams without storing their various fruits in a refrigerator, using them only when they are ripest to create outstanding taste that captures the fresh taste of the fruit flesh itself. All are handmade, and the peeling and pit removal is also done by hand one fruit at a time. Their strawberry jam which contains large chunks of strawberry is popular. Inside the shop’s interior café space guests can enjoy items such as piroshki stuffed full of ingredients as well as soft ice cream.
