Ogimi Village Bashofu Hall大宜味村立芭蕉布会館
Bashofu (abaca cloth) has been designated one of the nation’s Important Intangible Cultural Properties, and this is the only place in the prefecture where you can see the creation process up close. The first floor features a video that demonstrates the painstaking handiwork that utilizes the local natural environment to create the product. Products are exhibited and sold here as well. The second floor is the work area, where artisans of the traditional craft carry out their training. Observation is possible, but you must receive permission in advance.

Okinawa Main Areas
Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You've arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan's most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
