Kyoto Hotel Okura Villa Kyoto Cuisine Awata Sanso京都ホテルオークラ別邸 京料理 粟田山荘

Local Cuisine

This is a traditional Japanese restaurant located in Kyoto Hotel Okura specializing in Kyoto Kaiseki cuisine. The building is a renovated villa once owned by a textile manufacturer who made his fortune from Nishijin brocade before the war. From the window of the extravagantly built sukiya-style building (traditional Japanese style) guests can enjoy a view of a well-kept garden, beautiful in every season. Plans including accommodation at Kyoto Hotel Okura and a relaxing enjoyable dinner are available. A lunch menu is also available for guests who want to enjoy the cuisine.

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
