Esashi Bay Marina (Esashi Umi no Eki Kaiyomaru) (江差港マリーナ(えさし海の駅 開陽丸))
4.0
Located approximately one hour and 30 minutes away from Hakodate by car, this exhibition facility is the live-sized replica of the Kaiyo Maru, a Tokugawa shogunate battleship that sunk off the coast of Esashi in 1868. It exhibits approximately 3,000 artifacts and valuable materials salvaged from the excavation of the undersea ruins that began from 1975, more than 100 years after it sunk. There are many interested items, such as the appearance of the crew and the shogunate Vice Admiral Takeaki Enomoto, cannons, pistols, medical supplies and eating utensils. Besides experience corners where you can launch cannons, do a simulation maneuvering a ship and one in preservation, there is also somewhere to get a bite to eat.

Hokkaido Areas

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
