Statue of William Smith Clark

Other Historic Site/Building
A statue of American professor William Smith Clark, famous in Japan for the phrase, Boys, be ambitious. The professor's statue on the grounds of Hokkaido University was famous, but due to the numerous visitors obstructing campus business, a new statue was erected on the tourist destination of Hitsujigaoka. Today, this statue is now the more famous of the two. Clark's pose, pointing far off into the distance with his outstretched right hand, has become a symbol of Hokkaido tourism.
