Rishiri Fureai Onsen利尻ふれあい温泉

Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath

A hot spring bath facility in Rishiri Town, Hokkaido. The hot spring waters are yellowish and muddy and boast one of the highest concentrations of carbonic acid (carbonation) of any hot spring in the country. This hydrogen carbonate spring also contains carbon dioxide, sodium, magnesium, and chloride. The waters soothe nerve pain and other ailments. At the hot spring's day trip bathing facility, the Risirhi Town Fureai Rest Center, there are two types of baths for visitors to enjoy-a constantly replenished kake-nagashi style bath and a heated, filtered bath. Due to the area's harsh winters, the outdoor bath is only open in summer.

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
