Sapporo Maruyama Zoo is located around 15 minutes’ drive from JR Sapporo Station, and around 7 minutes’ journey on the shuttle bus service from Maruyama Koen Station on the Sapporo Subway’s Tozai Line. The philosophy behind the development of the Zoo was to create linkages between people, animals and the environment, and this is reflected in programs to help people learn about the importance of animal life and the environment, experiential activities at the Zoo’s animal hospital, and tours of the Zoo led by volunteer guides. The Zoo has more than 150 different mammal and reptile species.
