This is a facility providing information to climbers on wildlife and nature, as well as walking courses, at the entrance to Cape Tachimachi Teishajosen, near the Hakodate Seikan Renrakusen Memorial Monument. Volunteer guides are available between Thursdays and Saturdays if reserved in advance. The center explains the best courses for climbing, as well as the wildlife and plants living on Mt. Hakodate. The center is not only for mountain climbers, but is also recommended as a museum. There is an open space next to the center where visitors can learn from the displays while enjoying a break.

本来は自然豊かな函館山のビジターセンター的な役割を果たすべきなのですが、活動が消極的で館内も雑然としています。せいぜいトイレに立ち寄るぐらい。情報はここに集まりません。いくら函館市が指定管理者に丸投げだからといって、これはハズカシイ。自然が好きな人が働いているレベルで、動植物の専門家もいないようです。これが国立公園だと予算の出所が違いますが、所詮函館市の公園管理部署というカテゴリー。まあ、言っても...

函館山旧登山道の入口近くにあります。函館山を登るのは初めてなので情報収集の為に立ち寄りました。旧登山道で山頂までは40分-1時間とのことでした。センターの建物の中には函館山の植物の案内や函館要塞の説明もありました。石橋の位置を尋ねるとすぐ近くなので案内して頂けました。事前予約をすればガイドもして頂けるようです。
