Shimosuwa Museum History and Folklore Museum (Shukuba Kaido Museum)

Reference/Local/Exhibition/Literature Museum
"A museum located in Shimosuwa Town, Nagano Prefecture. The museum introduces the history and culture of the area, which originally developed as Shimosuwa-shuku, a post station town built around Suwa Taisha Shrine. Inside, visitors will find exhibits on the area's post station town history and Shimosuwa Onsen, as well as prints of ""The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido"" ukiyo-e series, archives relating to Princess Kazunomiya, and materials on the falsely accused Sekihotai paramilitary group. In addition, the museum operates out of a remodeled structure which, although it was constructed in the Meiji period, was built in the Edo period merchant home style, and, alongside the museum's exhibits, visitors can get a taste of what the area looked and felt like during its heyday as a post station town."
