Nishizawa Gorge Forest Railroad Junction

Other Sightseeing Spot
These are the remains of a former railroad in Mitomikawaura, Yamanashi City that carried lumber until 1968. It was known as the Sanen Railroad because it hauled its cargo along the Nishizawa Gorge from Mitomi Village (now a part of Yamanashi City) to Enzan City (now a part of Koshu City). Currently a hiking course runs along the former path of the railroad. Visitors can hike through a rich natural setting that includes large colonies of rhododendron and waterfalls. Many hikers visit the area during the rhododendron blooming season in May and during the fall foliage season.
