Jurinji Temple (Narihira Temple)

Temple
An ancient temple also known as Narihira Temple as it is where the famous Heian Period poet Ariwara no Narihira spent his twilight years. This shrine is said to bring conception and easy childbirth because during the early Heian Period the consort of Emperor Montoku, Lady Somedono (Fujiwara no Akirakeiko), visited the shrine to pray for easy childbirth. The proper way to enjoy the Jurinji Temple weeping cherry tree, gifted by the emperor and also called the Narihira Cherry Tree, is in three ways, standing, sitting, and sleeping. The Sanbou Fukan Garden, meaning viewable from three directions ---the elevated walkway, the Narihira court and the teahouse, built to surround cherry blossoms--- is also called the Garden of the Mind because you'll think differently by changing angles.
