Japanese Confectionery

"Just a two-minute drive from the Yaotsu town hall is this Japanese-style confectionary shop. It will make you feel its history with its prominent appearance. They create traditional Japanese sweets that contain no additives and are made of nothing but fresh Yaotsu chestnuts. Their ""Mashed Sweetened Chestnuts"" is made soft and flaky, and it makes you want to drink some green tea. It is a simple dish where you can feel the sweetness and umami of the chestnuts. Since some of the chestnuts' astringent skin is mixed in when using a peeling machine, they continue to do it the old way where they remove the skin by hand. The ""Kuriimu Daifuku,"" rice cake stuffed with a mixture of fresh cream and chestnut liqueur, is only sold over the counter."

Review of Kurikinto Hompo Umeya

Reviewed:2019/02/14

Tucked away in the very center of Japan, Gifu prefecture houses mountains, old towns, and one of Japan's greatest hot springs, Gero Onsen. A tour of the prefecture's traditional architecture will take you from the mountain-enveloped wooden streets of Takayama to the mountain village of Shirakawago, where visitors can explore 250-year-old thatched roofed houses known as gassho-zukuri.
