This museum inside Morioka Central Park is located in Araya, Motomiya, Morioka City. In addition to the prefecture-designated historic site Odate Ruins, it conducts exhibits of excavated materials from excavated ruins in the prefecture. Besides theme exhibitions and special exhibitions, there are also hands-on learning experiences such as pottery making and fire-making. There is also an adjoining library where you can view historical materials.

入口が道路とは反対側にあるので、ちょっと見過ごしてしまいがちですが、結構おもしろい博物館です。土器や石器がたくさんあって、時代ごとの変遷も併せて学べます。

盛岡市の出土品を見ることができる考古館です。旧石器時代から近世まで、所蔵品は豊富で勉強になりました。

岩手県は、けっこう、遺跡の発掘が盛んなようで、関連施設も多いようです。ここもそのひとつで、考古学好きの方でしたら、時間を忘れるでしょう。
