Their fresh cake is made with carefully selected local strawberries, and their Kotei Daifuku bean jam-stuffed sweets are made with an ancient variety of mochi rice. They also have pastries, mochi rice cakes wrapped in bamboo leaves, and more. The shop's atmosphere is a fusion of Japan and the West as well.

水戸市内観光で水戸駅に車を止めて周辺部を歩きましたら、老舗らしい佇まいの和菓子屋を発見しました。何か吸い寄せられるようにお客さんが入っていきます。これは入ってみなければと思い、「水戸の梅」に目が止まりました。普段、土産物店で並んでいるものと違う！小さなサイズの試食ができました。味も違う！これが本物かと思いました。これも試食できた「わらび餅」と購入決定です。よく見ればお客さんは地元に人の方が多いみた...

店構えが品が良くて好きです。石畳の床には水が打たれて、とても清潔な印象がありました。夕方だったので空いていました。

万延元年（1860年）創業の、地元では有名なお店です。季節感のある上生菓子は種類も多く、楽しめます。定番「水戸の梅」は、1個100円で、小さいものなので、たくさん個数が必要な場合にお勧めです。駅に近いこともあり観光客も少なくなく、けっこう混みます。駐車場は、ちょっと離れたところにある県三の丸駐車場ですと、30分まで無料です。
