Nishiyama Koryu-ji Temple

This Buddhist temple is located in Kota, Tanbara-cho, Saijo City. According to records, the temple was founded in 642, and it is counted as one of the temples on the Shikoku 20 Bekkaku Temple Pilgrimage of temples founded by the great monk Kobo Daishi. The temple grounds are home to numerous cultural properties, and have also been designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by the prefecture. The grounds are particularly famous as a place where visitors can take in beautiful autumn scenery during the fall foliage season.

見納めの紅葉鑑賞に訪ねました。駐車場から少々急な参道を20分、紅葉が自然林に映え見惚れました。最見頃は過ぎていましたが、ゆく秋を感じる厳かな別格霊場でした。

四国88ヶ所とは違ったカテゴリーの由緒正しい真言宗のお寺。本堂につながる石段はちょっと脚の悪い人には厳しいと思う。それなりに山深いところにあるため神秘さはある。ご朱印は専門の書き手の女性がいる。圧倒的に秋の紅葉の季節がおススメ。
