Honhaga Family Residence

Historical Monument
This historic building is located in Uchiko, Uchiko Town, Kita County. The mansion was built in 1899 by the Honhaga family, a local wealthy merchant family who made their fortune in the production of Japan wax. The residence has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Although the interior is not open to the public, visitors can see its exterior, which is decorated with Namako walls and plaster carvings, as well as the garden.

    内子駅から徒歩20分ほど。入場無料。製蝋業を営んでいた芳我一族の本家。1884年頃に建てられた主屋、土蔵などが国重要文化財に指定されている。住宅内部は非公開で入れるのは庭園のみだが、建物外壁に施された見事な鏝絵を見ることができる。

    重要文化財に指定されているそうですが、内部は非公開です。庭は柵の外から拝見することができます。とてもきれいに整えられた庭園でした。
