Rendai-ji Temple
This Buddhist temple, located within walking distance of Meitetsu Ono Station, was founded by Isshikisakyodaisukemichihide as a Jishu temple in 1314 at the end of the Kamakura period when this sect was at its apex. When it served as a temple for the imperial prayers of Emperor Hanazono, it boasted 17 dwellings for monks plus the temple complex itself, but much of this was lost in an attack by the Kuki navy in 1600. The current main temple building is believed to have been reconstructed in 1820. The grounds encompass the grave of the first lord of the Saji clan, who was the first husband of Go, later the legal wife of Tokugawa Hidetada, the second Edo shogun; as well as a pine tree on which Go is said to have hung her clothes to make it look like she had committed suicide and successfully escape pursuers after the fall of Ono Castle.
