Monument to Toshizo Hijikata's Last Stand

This monument, Ippongi Kanmon (a barrier) Remain, is where Hijikata Toshizo, vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, is claimed to have met his end during the end stage Battle of Hakodate. Fans come from all over the country to visit, and an annual festival is held on the first day of the Hakodate Goryokaku Sai where people parade in period costumes.
