This facility was established to contribute to the promotion of local culture as well as deepen residents' understanding of cultural properties, and the survey and research of buried cultural properties in Tokyo. It conducts exhibits and lectures centered on the items from excavations, and hands-on classrooms based on excavation research results. The Tama New Town area, where the facilities are located, has 964 sites and is where remains from each period have been discovered from the Paleolithic to early modern times. In the permanent exhibit, a large number of excavated items are displayed along with the general history from the Paleolithic period to Edo period (1603-1868).

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
