This museum displays about 10,000 pieces of items related to domestic life. Shinjo once prospered as a castle town, and you can learn about its history and culture here. In the festival hall, they display two of the leading floats used in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Shinjo festival. They also have films of the festival on display. In the Living National Treasure Silversmith Hoseki Okuyama Memorial Room and Western Painter Zenjiro Chikaoka Memorial Room, pieces by these master artists are always on display.

山車会館には、重要無形民俗文化財にも指定された新庄まつりの山車２台の展示。やっぱり迫力が違いますね。まるで生きているかのような人形も目を見張るものだと思います。

ユネスコの認定にもなっている新庄まつりの山車（やたい）が毎年入れ替わります。新庄のまつりの歴史を勉強できるだけではなく、古民具などの展示もあるので結構見応えがあります。ただ、無造作に展示されているのが少しもったいないです。
