Kashiwa Shrine
Shrine
This is a shrine established near the Kashiwa Station on the JR Joban Line. This shrine enshrines together two deities from the Haguro Shrine in Yamagata as well as the deity from the Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. The deities enshrined are Oyamatsumi-no-mikoto, the Inakura-no-mitama-no-mikoto, the Tsukiyomi-no-mikoto, Susano-no-mikoto, and the Inadahime-no-mikoto, all together, affectionately called the Tennosama by the locals. In the confines of the shrine stands a 300-year-old Ginko tree, and during New Years and the Setsubun festival in February the area is thronging with visitors. Prayers are offered for safe delivery of babies, and safety in the house, etc. in front of the sanctum, while off-site sanctification ceremonies are also offered for groundbreakings.
