Ichijoin Temple
This is a Shingon Buddhist temple of the chizan sect in Naka City. There is an approximately 16-meter tall statue of Bishamonten, at the entrance to the temple that is said to be the tallest of its kind in Japan. It was modeled after the work of the artist Unkei, whose wood-carved statue of Bishamonten is housed in the Bishamon Hall. The original statue was created in the mid-Kamakura period, and is designated a Cultural Property of the prefecture. This temple is also the seventh temple of the pilgrimage stops along the Kaiunka temple pilgrimage route that visits the primary eight-bodies of gods which protect the year of your birth, one of twelve horary signs. On January third, during the Bishamonten Festival, the inner sanctum is opened and, Daruma and Antique Markets are held and many throng to the celebrations.
